Who’s Kevin Tan?
The domain name of my blog (imKevinTan.com) is clearly showing my name. (What?) Yes I’m Kevin Tan, the author behind this blog. Well, I’m 25 years old (as in year 2010), a Chinese blogger and also husband of a wife. Currently, I live in Penang, Malaysia with my wife, Suyin. I graduated in computer graphic design and web development field. Ironically, I’ve never been working as a graphic designer or web developer in real life. Instead, I work online as a freelancer most of the time. Also, if you’ve heard of Amway Corporation, I’m a recognized Platinum Direct Distributor here in my country. So I sometimes be a public speaker too. I’m also a devoted gamer of most Blizzard and Square-Enix games like Diablo, Warcraft and Final Fantasy series. They’re just awesome!
How I Got into Blogging?
Firstly, I ain’t a new blogger. I was involved with internet marketing and online media industry a couple of years ago. Back in 2007, I started my first blog on the commonly used blogging platform – Blogger (a.k.a. BlogSpot) without realizing that blogging is profitable. Of course, I was just a casual blogger that time and basically blogging about miscellaneous stuff like most first-time bloggers do. Few months later, my blog traffic was slowly increasing. After that, I installed Google AdSense on my blog to try my luck. Surprisingly, a year later, I received my first AdSense check from Google! What started out as casual blogging soon became a growing source of income and here starts my make money blogging journey…
As I realized that blogging is profitable and also can be a business online, I then invest more time into it. I spent time to read others’ blogs to learn about how to blog and write better as well as internet marketing and SEO tips. I’ve learnt a lot from those expert and professional bloggers around my niche. Thank you all for sharing the blogging tips!
By browsing and reading those professional blogs, I noticed that most money-making blogs are setup on their own self-hosted WordPress blogging platform. I made a decision and decided to switch over to a self-hosted WordPress blog as well because I wanna take my blogging business a step further and I also understand that if I’m serious about blogging, I’ll have to listen to the experts and follow what the successful bloggers do. Don’t you agree too?

I picked an affordable and reliable web hosting plan wisely that comes with first-class WordPress hosting and support. Finally, I made a choice to set up my WordPress blog with the most recommended, yet affordable and reliable web hosting provider – HostGator. After sometime of WordPress blogging, I started to love it. It allows me to do almost anything I want with the availability of its themes and plugins. I optimized my blog by playing around with the themes and plugins until I lost my blog one day due to database conflicts and crashes. I’m in love with for WordPress now. It’s so easy to run an awesome WordPress blog (or site) with its framework. I purchased the Developer’s License directly for unlimited use of the theme! My previous WordPress blog (before the loss of database) was created with Alex Fraiser’s (the well-known 17 years old teen blogger from New Jersey) . From that time onwards, I’m sticking with for all my WordPress blogs.

I’m also an active member of . I joined it since it was launched. It’s a great place for me as a blogger to learn and share ideas about niche blogging. I’ve also grown to be a SEO strategist from the knowledge I’ve learnt through the forum as well as some search engine blogs. Sometimes, I’ll ‘go out’ and do some guest blogging (some people called guest posting) to build my blog and personal branding and most importantly, to build relationship with the blog authors too. And What I Do Now?
For the moment, I’ve a much focused niche of blogging tips and SEO strategies. As I’m treating blogging as a business, I’ve registered a valid company name – Successian Inc. for all my future and upcoming projects. However, the company has only one person employed at the moment and obviously, that’s me. I’ll see what I can do with the company in the promising future. In fact, I’ve several great planning in mind.
